A NATURALLY RICH AND TACTILE MATERIAL, SHAGREEN IS WELL KNOWN FOR ITS ORGANIC PEBBLY TEXTURE

Originally created from the rawhide of animals like sharks or stingrays, shagreen has long symbolised splendour. The material was widely used during the art deco period by modernist decorators who applied stingray skin to their furniture and lighting collections.

While honouring this traditional technique, we have discovered a way to mimic the organic pebbly texture of raw hides, without sacrificing our precious marine life.

FAQ about Shagreen

What sets our Faux Shagreen apart?

Our faux shagreen pieces are crafted using moulds to produce a high-quality resin material that closely imitates natural hides. This tactile material is then applied to the furniture using a lamination process in the same way real shagreen was used previously. Then to add colour, depth and variation the resin sheets are painted and finished by hand.

What is the best way to style Shagreen?

Shagreen is the sort of material that should be given space to stand out in a room, so leave it to one sophisticated feature in a sitting room like our Westbrook sideboard, a coffee or side table lightly wrapped like our Hubert range or even a handsome hollow console-like our Paxton console.
