A Thousand Years in the Making
Set within the rolling hills of Umbria, Reschio is a private estate where a thousand years of history meet architecture, craftsmanship and the rhythms of the Italian landscape. Carefully restored by the Bolza family over more than three decades, it is a place shaped by deep respect for what was already there.
Spanning more than 3,700 acres on the border of Umbria and Tuscany, Reschio encompasses woodland, meadows, olive groves, vineyards and more than 50 historic farmhouses.
An Estate Reimagined
The Bolza family acquired the once-abandoned estate in 1994. Since then, Count Benedikt Bolza, a London-trained architect, and his wife, Donna Nencia Corsini, have gradually brought it back to life, preserving its architectural character while establishing a distinctly contemporary identity.
Rather than imposing a single vision upon the estate, each intervention responds to its surroundings. Ancient buildings have been sensitively restored, local materials reinstated and the natural environment carefully protected.
At the centre of the estate stands a castle dating to the 10th century. Once the private home of Benedikt, Nencia and their five children, it reopened as Reschio Hotel in 2021 following years of meticulous restoration. Today, it brings together 35 rooms and suites, farm-to-table dining and an atmospheric Bathhouse.
Rather than imposing a single vision upon the estate, each intervention responds to its surroundings. Ancient buildings have been sensitively restored, local materials reinstated and the natural environment carefully protected.
At the centre of the estate stands a castle dating to the 10th century. Today, it brings together 35 rooms and suites, farm-to-table dining and an atmospheric Bathhouse.
The original architecture remains central to the experience. Stone staircases, vaulted ceilings, terracotta floors and substantial fireplaces retain the atmosphere of the historic castle, while generous windows draw the surrounding landscape into its rooms.
Within the ancient walls, glasshouses filled with palms and ornamental plants create moments of lightness and surprise. Music is also part of daily life, with performances unfolding throughout the castle and grounds.

Interiors Collected Over Time
No two rooms at Reschio are alike. Antiques discovered in Italian markets and workshops sit beside custom furniture and lighting designed by the estate’s in-house studio, BB for Reschio.
Art Nouveau and Belle Époque pieces are layered with contemporary forms, Italian fabrics and works by local artisans. The mix feels personal rather than prescribed, giving each room the character of an interior assembled gradually over generations.
This approach extends to the restored farmhouses scattered across the estate. Each is considered individually, with its history, proportions and surrounding landscape guiding every architectural and decorative decision.
All architecture, interiors, landscaping and bespoke design are overseen by the Benedikt Bolza Architecture and Design studio. Working closely with craftspeople, the studio creates furniture and lighting specifically for the estate, often beginning with an object required for daily life at Reschio.
This creative language continues through Reschio Collections, developed with the Bolza family’s three eldest daughters, Giorgiana, Nerina and Vita. The collection translates the estate’s distinctive aesthetic into finely crafted furniture, lighting and objects designed to be lived with.

Their design remains closely connected to the outdoors, framing changing views and drawing the colours and textures of the Umbrian countryside inside.

An Equestrian Tradition
Horses are integral to life at Reschio. The estate breeds and trains Spanish horses using a patient and sensitive approach, with dressage at the heart of its equestrian culture.
Within the Equestrian Centre, the Teatro Equestre provides an intimate setting for performances inspired by classical European horsemanship. Riding through woodland trails and across open meadows offers another way to experience the scale and beauty of the estate.

The Bathhouse
Beneath the castle, the Bathhouse occupies a series of ancient stone spaces, where vaulted ceilings and worn walls create a restorative atmosphere.
A tranquil pool lies within the former wine cellar, surrounded by treatment rooms, a sauna and hammam. Here, wellbeing is approached as a ritual, with the architecture itself creating a sense of stillness and retreat.
