  • Inspiring Tales from an International Sourcing Trip

    Thursday, February 04, 2016

Our Creative Director, Shelley Boyd, has spent the past month on a whirlwind, yet incredibly inspiring trip, travelling from the freezing cold and snowy conditions in Germany to the beautiful sunshine in Jaipur, India.

Shelley visited some of Europe’s most prestigious trade shows: Heimtextil in Frankfurt, Domotext in Hannover, IMM Furniture Fair in Cologne, MAISON&OBJET Paris and Déco Off in Paris, and finishing with a visit to the Chelsea Harbour Design Centre in London, Europe’s premier interior design centre.

Attending MAISON&OBJET Paris was arguably the highlight of Shelley’s time in Europe, and she left feeling incredibly inspired by the stunning product on display and trends forecast for 2016.

Here are some of Shelley’s observations from MAISON&OBJET Paris:

Rich colours are in! Orange, purple, navy, chartreuse, peacock and teal were all prominent, from rich coloured throws and cushions, rich velvets on upholstery, and rich coloured glassware.

Furniture with Marble or Mixed Metals like brass and bronze are right on trend. Curved and organic shapes like the armchairs below are also on trend. Classic upholstered pieces and Deep Diamond Buttoning are another big trend to watch out for (think our White Furniture Design collection), as well as transitional and 3 dimensional furniture like our Boyd Rockefeller Unit.

Raw and organic accessories are still very much on trend; expect to see a lot of timber and bone picture frames, mixed metal hurricanes and votives in the coming months.

So many incredible rugs were on display, with unique designs such as triangular and angular shaped, tri and multi coloured, and rich, deep colour palettes.

The beautiful and exotic styles of Grass weave wallpaper were everywhere, patterned and hand painted designs, and a lot of similar designs to our Boyd collection.

Shelley has also been on a quick but prosperous trip around India, visiting several of our talented artisans and sourcing pieces for the Boyd and Boyd Rugs 2016 collections.
The highlight from her time in India was discovering an array of gorgeous rugs and selecting new designs for Boyd Rugs.
Shelley and our product development team were also lucky enough to enjoy a magical morning watching the sun rise over the Ganges River.

What a fabulous year it has been for the Boyd Blue!

The Boyd Blue team have worked hard over the year and it’s incredibly gratifying to look back and reflect on our fantastic achievements throughout 2015.

Shelley spent a significant part of the year travelling overseas to seek inspiration and develop our Boyd product range. This included attending prestigious trade shows such as High Point Market in Texas and Maison Objet in Singapore.

  • Upcoming Trends from High Point Market

    Tuesday, May 05, 2015

In mid-April our Founding Director, Shelley Boyd, went on her annual trip to the United States for the trade show experience like no other, High Point Market.

Over 75,000 people visit Greensboro, North Carolina, twice a year for the largest home furnishings trade show in the world. Exhibitors at High Point are renowned for not only forecasting the upcoming design trends, but offering an inspiring hub for design enthusiasts to congregate from around the world.

After attending the Spring market over 18-23 April 2015, Shelley returned to Head Office feeling inspired and buzzing with ideas.

As national distributors of the Arteriors brand, Shelley also had the privilege of seeing the amazing new product range first-hand, as well as spending some quality time with the team.

The beautiful saucer pendants hanging behind Shelley is the latest and very cool Remus Pendant.

While feeling inspired and fascinated by all of the amazing products, brands and designers on showcase at High Point, it was the stunning exhibits by Arteriors, Skyline Design and Julian Chichester that stood out to Shelley.

Upcoming design trends to look out for in this coming year:
    (as seen at High Point)

Metals are still going to be huge! Whether its mixed metals, mixture of materials and finishes, or metals mixed with minerals like agates and geodes. Expect to see a lot of brass, bronze, copper, nickel and stainless in the Boyd Blue Showrooms.

We’ve always loved the circular look at Boyd, but this was also a popular trend at High Point. Watch out for this look in round mirrors, designs with rings, as well as layering of rings and circles.

Pops of colour are going to be a massive trend, this look was everywhere at High Point. In particular, blues, greens, teals and navy tones (just what we love at Boyd). Mohair velvet is also right on trend, in fact all the colours from our Boyd velvet range were on display. Contrast piping on furniture and coloured lacquer furniture were also a stand out look.

There was some lovely timber furniture on display at High Point, with great timber colours and wood grain going in all directions. Watch out for unique timber styles.

Feathers have remained on trend, appearing in a range of designs and products. Think sub straights/materials from wall art, cast in metal, on fabrics, wall paper and event stuffed birds!

The glamour/luxury/sophisticated looks were everywhere, and another trend to watch out for; this look is very feminine and styled with colours such as pink and blush, mixed with brass and gold.
